PURPOSE OF THE INDIAN COMMONER
This forum on the commons seeks to encourage conversations around the way human societies and communities can control, manage and use resources based on practices that are co-created/shared by people as part of larger communities. Questions of commons concern not only the communities using, managing and deriving benefits from these resources, but also different groups of people including civil society, academicians, activists, political thinkers, policy-makers, corporates, governments, so on and so forth. Consequently, the way commons are perceived is significantly influenced by their understanding of development. There are few platforms which bring out this diversity in the perspectives around commons. The intent of the forum is to provide a platform in which individuals from diverse backgrounds including workers and members of communities, academicians, people from government departments, civil society organisations and all those interested can be part of these conversations.
